Papamoa
South East of Mount Maunganui, Papamoa is a sort of Kiwi-California-by-the-sea. It has been one of Tauranga’s fastest growing suburbs, blossoming 40% since 2001. It’s on the way to becoming a city in its own right, with lots of new, often ritzy subdivisions.
Amenities: Apart from being the local ‘surf city,’ complete with the country’s only artificial surfing reef, the Mount has a vibrant downtown with plenty of restaurants to choose from. The area is well served with shopping centres including the biggest, Bayfair, five minutes drive from downtown Mount, and Palm Beach Plaza and Fashion Island at Papamoa. Papamoa boasts Australasia’s only purpose- built land yachting track – blokart Heaven where the locally designed karts are sailed.
