Strand Cafes Makeover - New Menu & Open Hours

Strand Cafes Makeover - New Menu & Open Hours

Cafe in The Strand has new owners a new menu and a completely new look. If it’s been a while since you ventured inside the cafe (formerly Snackarama), on the corner of The Strand and Harington Street it’s time to pay them a visit.

Mother and daughter team Annette Martin and Nicola George took over the cafe in December last year, and have transformed it with a trendy new denim and cream interior, comfy leather couches and most importantly, tasty, tempting food. Nicky has spent 11 years working in the food industry in Tauranga. She is the whiz in the kitchen, while mother Annette comes from a background in retail. Together they make a great, friendly team. ‘Nicky has always wanted to have her own cafe and when this one came up we thought it was in a great location to cater for the many offices and shop assistants in the area,’ says Annette.

Located at the more peaceful end of the Strand and with fabulous views across the waterfront park and harbour, Cafe on the Strand is a great place to relax with family or friends or hold an informal meeting with colleagues. Annette says even after only a few weeks in business they were already building up a regular clientele, due in part to their focus on good food and reasonable prices. Coffee is just $2.50 with food and the $6.50 bacon and eggs have proved a hit with breakfast customers. If you’re feeling really hungry, the $10 big breakfast should set you up for a great day.

Also on offer is a selection of sandwiches, wraps, pies stuffed potatoes and kumara and quiche, plus plenty of cakes and slices for those with a sweet tooth. The blackboard menu is varied and includes burgers, chips, toasted sandwiches, hot and cold drinks and $5 and $6.50 meals. Work shouts are a speciality for the cafe and can be delivered to your door within the CBD.

Cafe on The Strand is open 6 am to 3.30 pm on Monday to Friday and 10 pm-3.30 am on Thursday to Saturday nights, making it a great place to grab a quick bite after a night on the town. (By Natasha Mitchell – Weekend Sun)
