One of those welcome green oases in the middle of the city’s urban sprawl. Also known as Wharepai domain, office workers frequent the park to walk, jog or eat lunch. Its home to a children’s playground, and one of the city’s oldest tennis clubs, and the local rugby sub-union.
Sights include a statue of an early mayor, Reverend Charles Jordan, with some ancient canons nearby. Huge trees such as an American Tulip Tree tower over part of the Domain, used for highland games, and food & wine festivals.
