Traffic Delays after Truck Turns Over
Traffic was delayed for more than two hours yesterday at the Te Maunga roundabout, near Baypark. A truck and trailer unit that was travelling from Te Puke to the Mount, entered the roundabout but the trailer unit, carrying a container tipped over. The cab stayed on its wheels but the rig was left partially blocking the roundabout. No one was injured in the accident. Archive photo

Election Looms - Check your Enrolment Details
Local registrar of electors, Lesley Christophers, is urging anyone who has not received an enrolment pack by today, to contact them. More than seven thousand eligible voters in Tauranga and the Western Bay of Plenty are not registered. Enrolment packs went out on Monday and residents are urged to check the details, so they can vote in the October local body elections.

Stranded Catamaran Breaking Up
The catamaran, Ika Roa, that broke its moorings in Monday’s storm and washed up on Matakana Island, is now starting to break up. The owners, who have had the catamaran moored at Pilot Bay for more than twenty years, have managed to salvage some of the more expensive equipment. Pictured: Matakana Island


Missing Kayaker Named
Whakatane Police have still not located any sign of an Ohope man, Marquis John Jeffrey. All indications are that Mr Jeffery went kayaking on the Ohiwa Harbour on or about Tuesday last week and has not been seen or heard of since. Archive photo


Hotel Fire Investigation Carries On
Eastern Bay of Plenty Police are continuing their investigations into a suspicious fire at the Pinelands Hotel in Kawerau in the early hours of Friday morning. The investigation team has spent the past two days interviewing staff at the hotel, as well as patrons who were drinking at the hotel on Thursday night and early Friday morning. Detective Ross Everest will not speculate on the cause of the fire
