Rock Fall Cause Still Unknown
No specific cause has been found for a rock fall near Tauranga, which injured three people. In August last year, rock fall in the Mangorewa Gorge between Tauranga and Rotorua, damaged cars and trapped and injured three people. Contractors were working in the area at the time. The latest Department of Labour report says the Transport Agency and Rotorua District Council couldn't have anticipated the rock fall. Transport Agency local State Highway manager Rod James says it was hard to pin point the exact cause but nearby rock blasting was given as one possible reason.

Police Chase Petrol Thieves
Katikati police are keen to track down a couple of would be petrol thieves. Police say it appears at least two people set fire to a 50 thousand dollar piece of orchard machinery on Wednesday night, while trying to siphon petrol. Senior Constable John Fitzgerald says partially melted containers with the siphoned petrol, were found left at the scene. He's keen to hear from anyone with any information.

Relay for Life Entries Down
A Relay for Life organiser says despite fewer teams, the event has generated just as much awareness. The Bay of Plenty leg of the event is in Rotorua tomorrow with 56 teams entered from around the region. Kiri Thomas says this year's entry numbers are well down on 2008 numbers. But Kiri Thomas says despite a drop in numbers she's confident the event will still show how generous the community is.

Man Charged With Rape of Girl
A 37 year old from Gate Pa has been charged with raping a girl under 12. The man was arrested on Wednesday afternoon by Tauranga police and is facing a total of four charges. Detective Sergeant Zane Smith says they include rape of a female under 12, unlawful sexual connection and two charges of indecent assault.

Gull to Review Fuel Prices
People wanting to fill their cars up with cheap fuel today, need to be quick. Gull in Mount Maunganui is the only fuel company holding off hiking fuel prices. However, there'll be a review of prices today. The other major oil companies have increased petrol prices by up to 10 cents over the space of a week taking the price of 91 to $1,82.9.

Kick Off  for Surf Lifesaving Champs
This weekend's Surf Lifesaving Champs in Whakatane will be a talent scouting exercise for head coach Scott Bartlett. More than 15 hundred top lifeguards will converge on Ohope Beach this weekend for the annual champs. Bartlett says he'll be using the event to spot potential candidates for the New Zealand squad bound for Egypt next year
