Man Run Over by Tractor
An 81 year old Waihi man is in a serious condition at Waikato Hospital, after being run over by a tractor on his farm in Golden Valley Road. The victim had been standing beside the machine when he reached in to start it.  Unfortunately it had been left in gear, and he was caught by one of the rear wheels, which pulled him under and out other the other side. Even though he'd received severe chest and head injuries, he still managed to ride a quad bike back to the farm house get help. He was flown to Waikato early yesterday afternoon by the TrustPower TECT rescue helicopter.

Boy Escapes Serious Injuries in Rock Fall
A 14 year old boy got an early Christmas present at the weekend, when he only suffered minor injuries after falling more than 30 metres onto rocks near Pauanui, on the Coromandel. Chief paramedic Barry Watkins says the boy escaped with just cuts and bruises and few sore spots. He says there are cases in which people die from simply slipping on their back step, but the boy bounced and fell down a very unforgiving rocky area. He was airlifted to Starship Hospital as a precaution.

Professional Lifeguard Season Starts
Regional lifeguards start their patrols at the four of the main beaches today, Whangamata, Mount Maunganui, Omanu and Papamoa. The professional lifeguards will remain on duty on weekdays until the Waitangi Day long weekend. At Waihi Beach, regional lifeguards begin duties on December 28th through until January 29th, while at Pukehina, they also start coverage on the 28th, but end it a week earlier, on January 22nd. The local club volunteer patrols will remain on duty at weekends.

Free Beach Bus Operative from Boxing Day
For those of you heading to the beach, the free park and ride Beach Bus will be in operation from Boxing Day, through until January 4th. It runs every fifteen minutes from the Totara Street parking area near Blake Park out to the Mount Main Beach from 11am till 7pm daily, with extended hours on New Years Eve, when it will operate until 3am.

Arrest in Road Rage Case
A 29 year old man from Mount Maunganui was arrested Friday afternoon in connection to a road rage incident in Pyes Pa Road earlier this month. He's been charged with Reckless Driving and Assault with a Weapon, and will appear in the Tauranga District Court in the New Year. Sergeant Lester Polglase wishes to thank witnesses who assisted police with their enquiries into the December 12th incident.

23 Face Drink-drive Charges
Police roadblocks have been active in the Eastern Bay of Plenty for the second weekend running. Just over two thousand drivers were pulled over for breath testing, with 23 to now face drink-drive prosecutions. Police say there are more designated sober drivers around this year, and these people should be applauded.

Police Cars Crash
Two local police officers suffered minor injuries when their patrol cars collided on Cameron Road early yesterday. The collision occurred near 19th Avenue as both vehicles were travelling towards Greerton. Enquiries are continuing into the cause of the crash.
