Heritage Gold Granted Talisman Mining Permit
Heritage Gold has secured a permit to rework the old Talisman gold mine north of Waihi. The mine at the Karangahake Gorge area previously produced more than a million ounces of gold, and three hundred thousand ounces of silver. The 25 year permit will allow for joint venture negotiations, resource enhancement, mine planning, development, and processing. Heritage is already in discussions with potential Chinese investors. Police on Lookout for Driver
Tauranga police are confident of catching the driver who allegedly terrorised a local family at the weekend. They've already spoken to several witnesses, and believe the offender is also a local. The driver is said to have harassed the family as they were driving towards Rotorua, following their vehicle at speed, overtaking and braking, and also trying to ram them.

Road Rage Surges
Local cyclists have also become the targets of a seasonal upsurge in road rage and hoon behaviour. Tri-athlete Michael Kelly says he's had all sorts of objects thrown at him by passing motorists, including full bottles of beer. And he says police need to do more than just issue warnings to those responsible. Archive photo

Project Manager Kevin Reid says the whole project, which also included the four laning of Hewletts Road, has come in nearly fifty million dollars under budget.
