One of the best-known local charter boats is the Manutere, a common sight on the Tauranga city waterfront, heading out with boatload of fishos from The Marina and Salisbury wharf at Pilot bay, the Mount.
The launch was built in 1975, and has a reputation for comfort and stability -and catching fish. Skipper Brett Keller, ex-commercial fisherman, says they head to spots like Astrolabe Reef: 'wherever we're getting the most fish'. Manutere takes 25 people comfortably, with rods and bait for hire if necessary, and is equipped with a toilet and shower. Cost: day trips from adults $80, Manutere is also available for group charter.
