At the northern end of Waihi Beach, there’s a pohutakawa-covered point leading to the excellent Orokawa Bay Scenic Reserve Track, a ‘must do.’ The track meanders along the coastline ‘winding its way around to the white sandy seclusion of Orakawa Bay.’
Hikers are well rewarded for their ‘easy’ gradient effort: pohutakawa-fringed beaches, beautiful coastal views, good rock fishing and lovely picnic spots. Orakawa Bay has a shelving beach not considered safe for swimming. At one end is a 15-minute side-track to William Wright Falls with a swimming hole at the base.
