The Port of Tauranga Half Ironman (also known as the Tauranga Half) is an annual event held in Mount Maunganui, Bay of Plenty. The triahtlon has been running for 25 years making it the longest running triathlon in New Zealand. The iconic race is arguably New Zealand's most popular triathlon, and is open to all age groups, shapes and sizes, and of course elite athletes.
The Half Ironman consists of a 2 km Swim, 90 km Bike, and a 21.1 km Run. The popular event is managed by Sport Bay of Plenty and accredited by Triathlon New Zealand. Also run as the National Long Distance Triathlon Championship. Winners receive a medal, entry to the NZ team and qualification for the World Championships.
Did we mention it is held with the stunning backdrop of the Mount Maunganui volcano, the harbour and the beach - a perfect location! Swim in the harbour at Pilot Bay, run around the mountain base track and ride around the beach at "The Mount". The Tauranga Half usually sells out so if you wish to compete you should get your entry submitted with plenty of time.
